Despite gaining distance, Sally runs right into what would normally be considered a safe space, but unfortunately this time the family home represents a place of danger, dysfunction and ultimately, death. Running for her life, we watch as the chainsaw comes within inches of her and the guttural screams continue, almost seeming to propel her onwards as though fuelling her ahead of Leatherface. Even though she fails to kill him, she does her best to lead Leela the other way, only for Leela to become the “next Sally Hardy”.It’s not wholly obvious in the first thirty minutes of Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre just who our final girl will be, with no specific attention given to the character of Sally Hardesty. Although Sally’s death is not explicitly shown, the severity of her injury and the impossibility of someone saving her make it clear that she died. Sally sets herself the best example of convincing Lila that the only way to make Leatherface go away and the trauma it will inflict is to kill her. She assures Leela that she cannot escape Leatherface or the trauma it inflicts on her if she survives without killing him. Realizing that there is nothing she can do to kill Leatherface, she asks Leela to take the gun and kill him. On the verge of death, Sally tries to kill him one last time with her gun, but she fails to send him to hell. After bathing in her blood, Leatherface throws her in a garbage dump and leaves her there to die. He strikes Sally with his chainsaw and holds her in the air with his favorite weapon. However, the killer cunningly enjoys his second chance to kill Sally. Sally realizes the gravity of the situation only when she sees Leatherface attacking Leela and Melody and tries to kill them. She gets trapped and sees him moving away from her. She confronts him with a shotgun and asks him if he remembers it.Įven though Sally holds Leatherface at gunpoint to kill him, the traumas and memories of her past overwhelm her mind. Instead of helping the two women, Sally risks their safety in order to exact vengeance on Leatherface. ![]() She goes to Harlow and is greeted by Leela and Melody, who try to escape the mass murderer. When she learns that Virginia’s facial skin has peeled off, she understands that Leatherface is back. She comes across the bodies of police officers and Virginia. When Sally learns that Harlow is having unusual events, she leaves her house to find out what’s happening in Ghost Town.
